THE GARDENS AWAIT

Welcome to Baradari Garden Patiala, an enchanting garden in the heart of Punjab’s royal city. Baradari Garden is a brilliant place that seamlessly combines historical royalty with the calmness of nature. Established in 1876, approximately 200 yrs old, the garden has become a cherished landmark, situated at latitude and longitude, 30.335239 and 76.388769 respectively. Landscape which is covered by a complete set of flora and fauna, trees, shrubs, and lawns.

Baradari Garden boasts a designed infrastructure that blends historical elegance with modern functionality. The iconic Baradari Pavilion is surrounded by well-maintained pathways, and strategically placed seating areas. Within the premises, there are 11 tube wells for proper irrigation  and 15 Gardeners for the proper care of the garden.

KEY ATTRIBUTES

FLORA

The major flora species here include more than 3000 ornamental trees of chilta, pine, cotton tree, huge variety of shrubs, more than 30 varieties of seasonal flowers, approx 200 year old trees of barota , medicinal plants including harar, amla, jamun, neem, drumstick, hibiscus, rose, lemon grass, tulsi fruit trees including different mango varieties, pear, peach, plum, guava, amla, ber, jamun, kinnow and lemon.

FAUNA

Fauna is all of the animal life present in a region. The corresponding term for plants is flora. There is no doubt that birds stand out from all the faunal elements present around, due to their singing and their flying ability. The major keystone fauna species have collection of birds in bird aviary, different species of honey bees, bats, rodents, snakes, snakes making it a very diverse and geographically important land zone.

SOIL TYPE

Loamy soil composed mostly of sand , silt , and a smaller amount of clay. By weight, its mineral composition is in equilibrium. Loam is considered ideal for gardening because it retains nutrients well and retains water while still allowing excess water to drain away. A soil dominated by one or two of the three particle size groups can behave like loam if it has a strong granular structure, promoted by a high content of organic matter.

WAYS OF CONSERVATION

It is important to conserve the garden as it is considered lungs of the city. It’s old trees are prevented from collapsing through irrigation, termite treatments, preservation of ferns in the old fern house, preservation seed bank of old rare trees. More than 30 varieties of open pollinated seasonal flowers, more than 50 varieties of chrysanthemum, mushroom seeds are also preserved. shrubs and trees are protected by air layering, hardwood cuttings, softwood cuttings as it is important to save the trees and plants around us for a sustainable development for future.

THE MANAGEMENT

The Department of Horticulture in Punjab, concerning the purpose of gardens, actively contributes to the beautification and maintenance of public gardens and green spaces across the state. With a focus on ornamental plants, landscaping, and aesthetic appeal, the department plays a crucial role in enhancing the overall environmental quality of urban and rural areas. Its responsibilities include planning and designing public gardens, selecting appropriate plant species, and implementing sustainable landscaping practices. The aim is not only to create visually pleasing spaces but also to provide recreational areas for residents to enjoy. By fostering the development of well-maintained gardens, the department contributes to the overall well-being of communities and promotes a healthier and more attractive living environment.
