Using of Fruit fly traps to protect fruits

Farmers should use fruit fly traps to protect fruits from insects : Deputy Director Patiala, May 20 (JOSAN) – Deputy Director of Horticulture Department Sandeep Singh Grewal said that 20 percent of the fruit loss of farmers’ orchards is due to insects and diseases, which can be reduced by using fruit fly traps. He said that farmers can get fruit fly traps from Guava Estate Wajidpur, Office of Deputy Director Horticulture Patiala, Nursery Farms/Offices of all Horticulture Development Officers of the district.

The Deputy Director said that the main pest among insects is the fruit fly, which damages the fruit. This fruit fly damages the fruit of peach, plum, guava, mango, pear, and kinnu plants as the fruit fly arrives, use of fruit fly trap to control fruit fly.

They can be planted in the garden at the rate of per acre and the traps should be hung in the gardens until the fruits are completely harvested. After setting the traps in the garden, if there is a recent attack of fruit flies, then a new batch of fragrant oil can be planted in the trap.

The Deputy Director said that the use of traps in gardens is an environmentally friendly technique and it is a cheaper technique compared to the cost of pesticides. Compared to pesticides, the use of traps prevents flies in gardens for a long time and the use of traps also does not have any effect on friendly insects.
